Well, I wanted to do a post on the Icecrown Citadel last week, but I didn't know what to think of it. I'm doing it now, but I still have no idea if I like it or not.
So, it'll be (probably) the final encounter in WotLK. It's Arthas. It's Ner'zhul. It's the Lich King. I dunno, but I think it should be something to blow our minds off. Maybe a 40-player raid or something. Instead, they're making it playable as either a Dungeon, or a 10/25 player raid. This is where I say WTF?!
OK, so most of us mature WoW players have been playing Warcraft games since we were kids. We saw the evolution of races, the birth of new ones. We saw Arthas as a Paladin going mad, sacrificing a friend to get Frostmourne. We saw him kill his own father and we saw him merging with Ner'zhul to become the Lich King. Great, he IS the ultimate antagonist WoW has to offer. Now, with 3 expansions left to go (if the leaked info is right about that), you're opening the door to the Icecrown Citadel, and you're actually gonna let me see (and possibly kill) him in a 5-man Group? This is where I say BULLSHIT!
Vanilla WoW was a totally different game than what it has become now. It was difficult, leveling was a bitch, raiding was a serious thing with 40-man instances and stuff like that. All of that is gone now. We have Dungeons and Heroics for 5-man parties. I can understand that. There are a bunch of people that just don't enjoy raiding. So they got Heroics. Cool! But then we have Naxxramas which used to be one of the best things you could experience in a game. It's become a 10/25 man raid in eastern Dragonblight. Most guilds don't even bother doing Naxx now, other guilds are farming it like there's no tomorrow.
Then came Ulduar. And I said: now there's something worth my money. Strategic planning required and all, Ulduar is a nice experience for all players. And I thought "if Ulduar is THAT cool, I can imagine when they're actually gonna release Arthas... it'll totally rock the World of Warcraft". Yeah, sure... as a 5-man Dungeon thingie.
Ok, Ok, I know it'll be a 10/25 man raid, too. But still... what's up with 5-manning Arthas? That's what I want to know. Well, you can understand my frustration (I hope)... I look forward to whatever Blizz has to throw at us, just make it feel good... or else!
